Designed by African American architects Jack Haywood and the late Vince Proby, the museum opened its doors to the public during the 1984 Summer Olympics.

Founded in 1981 and originally housed in temporary quarters, the museum includes three full-size exhibitions, galleries, a theater gallery, a 14,000 sq. foot scuplture court, a conference center, special events room, an archive and research library, administrative offices, exhibit design and storage space.

"Over 100 Years of Service"
The African American Fire Fighters Museum is a non-profit organization dedicated to collecting, conserving and sharing
the heritage of the African American Fire Fighters.

The museum is housed at Old Fire Station 30. This station, which was one of two segregated fire stations in Los Angeles
between 1924 and 1955, was established in 1913 to serve the Central Avenue community.
